Abstract
 |
SPEKL
has developed a unique method for
making surface-relief holograms that
incorporate individual key, code,
or other image that is unique to each
hologram. The key to this process
is a photo-thermoplastic semiconductor
emulsion that was developed by the
leading R&D centers in the USSR, primarily
for military purposes. The technique
allows an individual code to be recorded
as a true hologram. In contrast, other
holographic numbering processes depend
on over-printing or blazing.
Counterfeiting of the company’s hologram
is literally impossible because of
the exclusively controlled and protected
methods that are used in the manufacturing
process. Although the basic production
equipment is commercially available
in both Europe and the United States,
the special knowledge, processing
methods, and equipment modifications
are unique features of the company’s
technology.
The technology represents an innovative
and cost-effective way to further
enhance protection against counterfeiting
of secured documents, ID documents,
banknotes and financial transaction
cards. Losses to governments, businesses,
and citizens through counterfeiting,
tampering, and theft around the world
are estimated at almost $960 billion
annually and are growing at around
15% per annum. |

for its SPEKL-V-KOM technology. About
$500,000 is needed to establish a
production line capable of producing
540,000 holograms monthly (a two-shift
operation). Selling a license to interested

research-and-production firm, SPEKL,
is one of the leading holography manufacturers
in Ukraine. It was established on
the basis of Special Design Bureau
of the Ministry of Higher Education
of Ukraine for the implementation
of special projects.
Devices and systems of holographic
recording produced by SPEKL company
were awarded 15 medals at the USSR
Economic Achievements Exhibition.
SPEKL also participated two times
in the International Exhibition in
Leipzig, Germany. In 1993, the holographic
instrumentation for protection of
securities and strict accountability
documents passed tests at GOZNAK in
Moscow.
